Hero MotoCorp achieve second slot in scooter sales

It is a well known fact that Hero MotoCorp is struggling with its motorcycle sales in Indian markets. The company has to face the dethroning of its flagship motorcycle Splendor by Bajaj Discover. It was a heartbreaking situation for the company but they can cheer about the improvement of sales in the scooter segment. The company is now in the second position for selling most number of gearless scooters in the markets after HMSI. Honda Motors is leading the scooter segment with highest number of scooter sales. There were just two scooter models from the Hero Moto Corp but both the scooters did exceptionally well taking the company to the second position. Hero Maestro achieved the tag of most selling Hero bikes in the gearless two wheeler segment. The reason for its success is because of its low cost, high performance and appearance that caught the attention of many. The company has managed to sell more than 49,000 units of scooters in the Indian markets helping the company to achieve a market share of about 19.40 %. TVS Bikes came in to third position in the gearless scooters segment with a market share of about 15.36 %.

By achieving the second position in the scooter sales, Hero MotoCorp proved that it is still a favorite for Indian riders. Hero Maestro that was launched recently has taken the challenge from TVS Wego to become one of the most selling scooters in India. The company is keeping high expectations on its Maestro in that has the ability to beat Honda Activa, TVS Wego in the gearless two wheeler segment. Hero Maestro also launched its male scooter.

However, TVS Wego has more of a girly look that made male rider to choose Maestro over Wego. Now it is competing with Activa and Aviator from HMSI, which are leading the scooter segment with highest number of sales. Despite losing the lead in the motorcycle segment, the company still believes to achieve its lost ground with its attractive scooter. It is a fact that the company’s motorcycles are expensive compared to the motorcycles from other Indian manufacturers. Hero Moto Corp needs to focus on bringing less expensive bikes with good specifications, features and appearance. This is important for the company to get in to its previous position in the Indian market and to become the world’s largest two wheeler maker.
